More Than 300 Pairs of Prince’s Custom Shoes Are on Display at Paisley Park

Prince wasn’t just known for his music—he also had an ostentatious style that made him a fashion icon. There are countless memorable moments in Prince’s fashion history, from his pastel sequined getup with matching pink boa to his standout royal purple suit from Purple Rain. However, what was truly legendary was his enormous shoe collection—which fans can see in a new exhibit at Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

This July, visitors will be able to check out more than 300 pairs of shoes worn by the late singer. The Beautiful Collection: Prince’s Custom Shoes exhibit will include pairs like his black shoes with gold lamé stripes worn at the De Beers and Versace “Diamonds Are Forever” charity fashion gala and his light-up roller skates.

The museum website states that the exhibition features “video interviews with Prince’s shoe design collaborators, a Versace-centric display area, and Prince’s impacts on fashion and gender expression.” It’s among the many exhibits at Paisley Park highlighting the legacy of Prince, who boldly challenged the norms of fashion and sexuality.

Mitch Maguire, the collection’s curator, told Variety that Prince’s “expansive, incredible shoe collection is just one example of his artistic expression, personality, and lasting impact on fashion.”

Paisley Park, the home and studio of Prince, was made into a museum after the star’s death in 2016. There are several tours for visitors to take, and his shoe collection will be a part of any package. Tickets are available online in advance or on-site at Paisley Park and range from $45 to $160.

The exhibit opened on July 9, 2021, and will be available for a limited time. To buy tickets, check out the Paisley Park site.
